Voting

VOTING IN THE TOWN OF NEWTON:

 

If you are a resident of the Town of Newton you must vote at the Newton Town Hall, 

6532 Carstens Lake Road, Manitowoc, WI.    Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at

8:00 p.m. You must be a registered voter before a ballot can be issued to you.

In order to register to vote, you must:

 

     1.  Be a U.S. citizen;

     2.  Be 18 years of age or older on or before the election day.

     3.  Have resided in the Town of Newton for ten days before the election in             

           which you desire to vote.

     4.  Not be disqualified from voting for any of the reasons described in Chapter

           6.03, Wis. Stats.

 

HOW TO REGISTER:

BY MAIL:

You must complete a Voter Registration Application (EB-131) and mail the completed application along with a copy of your driver's license to the Town of Newton clerk's office.  The application must be postmarked not later than the 20th day before the election.

 

IN PERSON:

You can register in person at the clerk's office before 5:00 p.m. on the 20th day before the election.  After the registration cut-off date you can register in the clerk's office by presenting acceptable proof of residence.  You will receive a Certificate of Registration (EB-133), which you should present at the polling place before being issued a ballot.

 

AT THE POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY:

You must complete a Voter Registration Application (EB131).  You must also provide a proof of residence which shows your current and complete name and current and complete residential address.   A proof of residence form can be:

     a)  A current a valid Wisconsin driver's license.

     b)  A current and valid Wisconsin Identification card issued by the Department  of

           Transportation.

     c)  Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin govern-

          mental body or unit.    

     d)  Any idenfication card issued by an employer in the normal course of business 

           and bearing a photo of the card holder, but not including a business card.

     e)  A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year of the year preceding the

           date of the election.

 

ABSENTEE VOTING:

If you are registered you can fill out the Application for Absentee Ballot.  Complete all lines that apply and send to the Town Clerk A ballot will be mailed to you with instructions.  If you are not registered you cannot vote until you do register.
