TOWN OF NEWTON
NOTICE OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of a Public Hearing to be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in the Newton Town Hall, 6532 Carstens Lake Road, Manitowoc, WI for the presentation of the proposed 2009 Town of Newton Budget (WI Stat. 65.90).
A special town meeting will be held immediately following adjournment of the Public Hearing pursuant to WI Stat. 60.12(1) for the purpose of approving the 2009 Highway Expenditures (WI Stat. 81.01(3) and to adopt the 2009 Tax Levy (WI Stat. 60.10(1)(a) and the adoption of the budget. Proposed Budget details are available in the office of the Town Clerk by appointment.

A public budget hearing meeting for the Town of Newton proposed budget for 2009 was held at the Newton Town Hall, 6532 Carstens Lake Road, Manitowoc, WI at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008.
Present: Kevin Behnke, Chairman; John H. Karbon, Jr., Supervisor; Donald Schuette, Supervisor; Barbara Pankratz, Clerk and Robert Marheine.
The budget hearing meeting was opened by Chairman Behnke. He explained that the levy was raised by one cent since towns are under a cap by the State. Included in the budget was additional funds requested by the Fire Department, First Responders, purchase of a new truck, work on the Newton Bridge on Newton Road as well as money for Land Use Planning to be compliant with Smart Growth.
Bob Marheine made a motion to approve the 2009 Highway expenditures. John H. Karbon, Jr., seconded the motion which carried.
Bob Marheine made a motion to approve the 2009 tax levy. Donald Schuette made a motion to second this motion which carried.
A motion was made by Bob Marheine to adopt the Proposed Budget as presented for the Town of Newton for 2009. Said motion was seconded by Kevin Behnke and carried.
There being no further business to come before the meeting motion to adjourn was made by Donald Schuette and seconded by John H. Karbon, Jr. Motion carried.
